Closed Issue: How can I install Magelia Webstore on a server with a remote instance of SQL Server ? [721]

When I use WPI to install Magelia, the instaler asks for a local instance of SQL Server and if none exists, insists on installing SQL Server Express. Is there a way to install Magelia Webstore via the WPI and define a remote SQL Server instance ?

We, at Magelia, consider that giving for free a community edition that enables small companies to build profitable e-commerce operations using our software is fine and we are happy with that. We design a software with a community edition that is free and commmercial versions such as the professional and enterprise editions. In our opinion, this approach is clear, clean and straightforward and it is a good balance between free and paying business models. Of course, we will not help you remove the built in restrictions but we do not hate people using the source, otherwise we would not provide an open-source software...

We need to build from code if we wish to override to remove any restrictions build in by default... (as we can since it is open software)

I guess 'they' hate people using the source as I have yet to find detect support on working with the code itself...

I've got a lot of errors during Data Updates (not always, but maybe half the time). I click on Update Data, wait, and then I've got an error page. According to the Event Log, it may be relative to my SQL Server 2008 R2 configuration for timeout, but I don't know what to do because this configuration has been automaticaly created by the WPI and I don't want to mess with it. The only workaround I know is restarting the WebStore App Pool. Hi Boris,

There is 2 ways to install Magelia with remote SQL Server instance :

- Using WebPI.
Launch WebPI, and go to the options screen. There is a "Click to enable remote database support" checkbox. When checked, WebPI should not ask you to install SQL Server express locally.

- Using WebDeploy. WebDeploy allow you to publish website directly to IIS. The following link http://www.magelia.org/download/download.ashx?name=Magelia.WebStore.Binaries contains the WebDeploy package.
Using this solution, you will have to manually install dependency (IIS, .net 4.5, HTTP WCF activation, MVC3+).

Yes, it seems that it is always the "BurstPrice" step that is failing. Sometimes during the Data Update, sometimes during a massive export.

I don't think that this could be anyhow related to the number of prices, because I only have one seller, one catalog, four products and and four prices.

I changed the default connect timeout for the "burst database" with the section you proposed, and it seems to works pretty fine : I can do a catalog export and Data Updates and everything's fine.

im trying to upload images to magelia 2.2 and they aren't loading properly, it brings a purple "X" image instead of my image.

i've been using this same images on magelia 2.0, and they were working properly, i dont know if now there is limitations or some other way to do it.

Hi Raphael,

I'm sorry but Orchard does not provide any code migration mecanism during module update process. When a module update is performed, the old version of the module is saved to the "_Backup" folder in the Orchard file system and the new one is installed, everything is replaced.

Could you describe the modifications you've made ? Maybe there is some improvements which can be implemented in our module and be usefull for the community.

We realy appreciate your feeback and we would like to fit everyones needs at the best.

Hi,

During "Data Update" (we used "burst" to named this operation internally), there is a lot of step.

Using the stack trace you provide me, it seems that the "BurstPrice" step is taking to long. This step has 2 sub-step : price computing and price insertion using bulk insert. It seems that the bulk insert is taking to long.

In order to help you, can you answer me some questions ?
- Is it always the "BurstPrice" step that is failing ?
- How many price do you have ? We did test with more than 10 000 price without any problems. (For information my local database contains about 31 million of price and many sellers and I am able to burst)

If you have not a lot of product (less than 1 000), one possible cause of error is a deadlock. If so could you send me a mail with the profiler trace ?

A possible way to resolve this issue, is to change the default connect timeout for the "burst database". You can specify a connectionstring by adding the following section in your web.config
<add name="MageliaWebStoreDataBurst" connectionString="Data Source=X;Initial Catalog=Magelia_WebStore;Integrated Security=True;MultipleActiveResultSets=True;App=Magelia WebStore DataBurst;Connect Timeout=300;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />

Please note that to avoid SQL Server Pool caching, you must use a different Application name value. I use "Magelia WebStore DataBurst".
